A 20-year-old Logan woman will serve three-and-a-half months of a nine-month jail sentence after she was convicted of 19 charges committed over a six-month period.

Woodridge woman Kyalla Marie Barbara Coolwell pleaded guilty to all 19 charges.

They included four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering premises with intent, possessing dangerous drugs, failing to provide a specimen of breath, three counts of breach of bail and a number of other drug and property offences.

All offences occurred between December 2019 and July this year.

She was arrested and placed in custody on August 24.

The most serious of her offences was a brazen alcohol theft at the Runcorn Tavern on January 27, where Coolwell and accomplices marched into the bottle shop, grabbed armfuls of booze and then ran away over the protestations of the attendant.

In late February, Coolwell stole a relative’s vehicle from her aunt’s home, which remained outstanding for several days until Coolwell was discovered driving the car on March 1.

A tyre deflation device was required to intercept Coolwell, the court heard, and she also failed to provide a breath/blood specimen upon her arrest.

The other three unlawful use of a motor vehicle charges relate to incidents where she was driving or a passenger in stolen vehicles where she was not the person who originally stole them.

Defence lawyer Andrew Palombo told the court his client fell into methamphetamine addiction early in the year, which precipitated her crime spree.

The court heard she had little prior criminal history.

Mr Palombo said missing her child’s first birthday because of her incarceration was a big wake-up call for Coolwell.

She was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, to be released immediately on parole having served 116 days behind bars.

She was also disqualified from driving for six months.

All convictions were recorded.
