A local community is mourning the loss of the victim of a tragic crash which saw a car sandwiched between two trucks on a busy southeast Queensland motorway.
Ormeau Hills driver Neil Brown, 48, was travelling with his daughter’s boyfriend along the Logan Motorway at Meadowbrook last Friday about 2.50pm when it is understood a truck clipped his car from behind.
According to police Mr Brown’s car then collided with a broken down truck stopped at the side of the motorway.
The Logan Motorway was closed eastbound until 11.30pm following the collision.
Police said Mr Brown was unresponsive after the crash and died at the scene.
Passenger Mark Drescher, 22 of Coombabah, reportedly told police Mr Brown attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the truck but was unable to prevent the collision.
Mr Drescher suffered minor injuries from the crash and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He has since been released.
Two additional vehicles were also involved in a minor collision with the rear of one of the trucks.
The drivers and sole occupants of the two trucks suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to hospital in stable conditions.
The drivers and sole occupants of the two vehicles involved in the subsequent crash did not suffer any physical injuries.
Tributes for the Mr Brown have been flowing on social media as Gold Coast locals remember a “beautiful and funny gentleman” taken too soon.
His immediate family received more than 300 loving messages of support after announcing Mr Brown’s passing.
Family member Bev Davidson shared a picture of Mr Brown and said the news had devastated the entire family.
“It’s with the heaviest of hearts and tears rolling down our faces knowing we have to write this,” she said.
“He was just the best person! Neil never wanted a fuss.
“To know Neil you just had to love him, from his cheeky comments to his horrible, yet hellacious, dance moves.
“He was just so happy and easy going. He did not have one bad bone in his body.”
Ms Davidson said the family would share funeral arrangements once they had been made.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out. We have read all your lovely messages, but it’s just too raw to get back to everyone,” she said.
