A 21-year-old Gold Coast cancer patient who was told he had six months to fulfil his dying wish to marry his girlfriend is not expected to make it to Christmas.

Just two weeks ago doctors assured Kienan Moore he had months to live but in the past week he has been in hospital, experiencing unbearable pain from the cancererous tumour that’s wrapped itself around his spine.

The clear cell sarcoma - also known as a soft tissue tumour - grew behind his left knee and is now in his lungs, near his heart, in his groin and and in his brain.

Doctors have warned Kienan’s family he might only have a few weeks left.

His mother Nicole Moore said the family was holding on to hope that the young man would survive until Christmas.

“It’s been an awful time to be honest,” the Gold Coast teacher said.

“He woke up last Thursday morning in so much pain and by the afternoon it was unbearable.

“We had to call for an ambulance to give him something for the pain and to take him to hospital where he’s been ever since.”

Mrs Moore said the family and Kienan’s partner Olivia Hinz spent that first night in hospital with him.

“He was screaming and crying into the night it was so bad,” Mrs Moore said.

“I’ve never experienced anything like it.

“At one point between sobs he turned to me and said, ‘Mum I’m dying.’

“I said ‘I know baby, I know.’

“It was just so traumatic to be around and we felt so helpless.

“None of us are ever going to forget that night.”

Weeks ago, instead of fearing the worst, Kienan stayed positive as he compiled his bucket list.

At the top of that list was a plan to propose to the love of his life, Olivia.

Kienan said the pain he was now suffering was like having his spine ripped out of his body.

Prior to being hospitalised, he’d only been taking codeine and panadol.

Medical specialists hope stronger pain medications and radiation will at the least, ensure Kienan’s final days are more comfortable.

No concrete plans have been made yet to move bucket list items forward, as Kienan’s loved ones are under too much stress and Kienan has been in too much pain to properly consider their options.
