A Year 7 student bashed on camera by three other students at a school on Brisbane’s southside will give a statement to the police Child Protection and Investigation Unit, with officers saying charges over the incident are possible.

Brutal fight at Brisbane school

A Year 7 student at Calamvale Community College bashed on camera by three other students at school will today provide a statement to police officers, as her mum confirms she’ll be pursuing a complaint.

Shocking footage emerged on social media last Wednesday of the student sustaining a flurry of blows, as three students, two of them in a higher year level, set upon her in front of helpless teachers.

She returned to school Thursday but didn’t make it through the day after she required teacher escorts between classes and endured a torrent of abuse, including being called a “snitch” and being slut-shamed.

Today, the girl’s mother said her daughter, who is yet to return to CCC over fears for her safety, will be making a statement to officers from the Oxley District Child Protection and Investigation Unit at Inala Police Station, who are currently reviewing footage of the incident.

“I will be asking if charges can be laid against them,” she said.

She said her daughter is determined to remain at CCC.

“She does not want to change,” the mother said.

“I have called Stretton State College to see if they would accept (my daughter) into their school but they are at maximum capacity.

“We chose Calamvale as it is easier to have (my daughter) and her younger brother in the same school next to their younger sister’s child care to make pick-up and drop-off easier for my husband and I.”

A QPS representative confirmed a complaint was made last Thursday and the matter had now been referred to the Oxley District CPIU.

In a letter issued late last week to CCC parents, executive principal Lisa Starmer said she was “sincere(ly) concerned and disappointed” by what the video depicted.

“I share your genuine frustration that these instances occur despite our strong partnerships with parents and our intensive focus on student behaviour,” she said.

“It upset me greatly to see students behaving in (that) way.”

However, in personal communication to the girl’s mother seen by the Courier Mail, Ms Starmer pursued a harder line.

“I’m sure that you are aware that (your daughter) is of an age that it is compulsory that she attend school unless she has a medical condition,” Ms Starmer said.

“I know that you will act accordingly.”
