Brisbane views wow the world during COVID-19 isolation

Brisbane residents have joined more than 1.4 million people worldwide posting photos of the view from their window while in COVID-19 isolation. Is your view better than these?

A BRISBANE woman has a totally different view of her back yard after receiving comments from more than 2400 people in isolation or lockdown worldwide.

Jennifer Redmond of Riverhills in the city’s south took a photo of more than 20 rainbow lorikeets sitting on her fence and posted it to the View from my Window Facebook page, which has more than 1.4 million members.

The page attracts about 31,000 posts each day. Mrs Redmond’s photo received more than 41,000 likes and 2400 comments, many stating they would love a view like hers.

Mrs Redmond said she was “stoked” by the response.

“In my post I said there’s not much to my backyard but people are saying they love it, they don’t have birds in their yard, or trees.

“Some said it’s so beautiful and it’s made me look at my yard in a completely different light.

Mrs Redmond she hadn’t initially planned to post a photo on the site.

“I was standing at my back door and the sun was shining. I thought there are people in hospital fighting for their lives and I’m standing here looking at these birds and thought I would put it on.”

Mrs Redmond, who is retired with her husband working from home, said she was finding home isolation “really hard”.

“I’m always out doing things,” she said. “I’m so bored and little things like this website help.”

Mrs Redmond is not the only Brisbane resident sharing photos with the rest of the world. There are views of the city skyline, Eatons Hill, Hawthorne, The Gap, Upper Mt Gravatt, and from Mount Glorious overlooking north Brisbane and Moreton Bay.

Mrs Redmond said she particularly liked photos overlooking lakes but the one that has had the most impact on her is one from a European country.

“All you could see were other flats close to her and a tiny bit of green grass down below with a carpark next to it.

“That’s her little bit of paradise. Regardless of what you can see it’s still your home, it’s still beautiful,” she said.

The View from my Window page was launched by Barbara Duriau from the Netherlands on March 22. Similar pages have been created on Facebook, but this is the one with the largest following.

Like the Bin Isolation Outing page, which has more than 960,000 members worldwide, View from my Window aims to connect people who are in isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.
