The court heard the alleged stabbing occurred about 7pm at Cecil Park, Eagleby on Saturday night.
It was not heard in open court the circumstances leading up to the alleged stabbing, although it’s understood there were several witnesses.
Police prosecutor Zoe Melksham told the court the alleged victim did not appear to be known to Ms Paterson.
Ms Melksham said the alleged victim was still in a “shocked state”.
It’s understood the alleged 14-year-old victim was released from hospital last night after requiring stitches to suture the deep, long gash.
Defence lawyer Lex Weddell told the court his client had no criminal history and that as the matter must proceed to the District Court on indictment, it may be “18 months to two years” until the case is resolved one way or the other.
“She’s spent the night in custody and it has been a sobering experience for her,” Mr Weddell said.
Meanwhile, Ms Paterson’s mother made an impassioned plea for her daughter’s release, telling Magistrate Clare Kelly, “She knows she needs help.”
Ms Kelly granted Ms Paterson bail on strict conditions including that she live with her father at Beenleigh, not return to Cecil Park, adhere to a curfew and maintain no contact with the alleged victim or witnesses.
The charges have been adjourned to November 4 to enable the disclosure of a police brief of evidence to the defence.
