Eight teams of three men, with a bit of liquid courage, put down their steins and fought it out in the Bavarian Strongman competition at Oktoberfest Brisbane 2022.
Inside the main tent at the Brisbane Showgrounds, they competed in the ultimate team event in a series of events that included: Jockey Race, Nailing, Tug of War, Jam Donut Eating (Krapfen)Barrel Race and Stein Holding.
Points are awarded in each round until a team is crowned.
All teams take part in all rounds.
While it might be obvious to say the competition favoured the bigger fellows, there were men of all shapes and sizes trying their hand.
The Krapfen eating saw the men swallow their jam donuts like vacuums, with beards being the casualty.
Michael O’rourke and Keegan Watson competed for the first time.
“We’re happy to make a fool of ourselves for everybody else’s benefit,” Mr O’Rourke said.
“I’ve been lifting the beers at the bar
We probably don’t have a chance of winning, we have our mates going in to and they’re huge.
“I won’t beat around the bush, I like drinking beer and getting drunk.
“Why do you think everyone comes here for?”
The Oktoberfest Brisbane celebrations will continue tomorrow from 12pm-8pm and then next weekend (October 14-16), Friday and Saturday 12pm-midnight and Sunday 12pm-8pm.
