South Burnett’s fastest growing schools – and the ones going backwards – have been revealed.
An analysis of federal government data has revealed every South Burnett region school’s student enrolment trajectory over the past five years – exposing where student numbers have risen and declined the most.
Windera State School is South Burnett’s fastest growing school, with enrolments increasing by 200 per cent in the five years from 2018 to 2022.
The second fastest growing school was Durong South State School with a 85 per cent change while Moffatdale State School recorded the third biggest change with a 60 per cent increase.

Meanwhile, the analysis also highlighted the South Burnett region’s schools in decline with Tanduringie State School in Pimpimbudgee recording a 45 per cent drop over five years.

Murgon State School was the second school going backwards for enrolment with a 42 per cent drop and Harlin State School was the third with a 40 per cent decline.
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority figures are the most up to date enrolment numbers that include all state and private schools nationally.

St Joseph’s School: 35 per cent
Wheatlands State School: 27 per cent

Proston State School: 17 per cent
Kingaroy State High School: 15 per cent

Tanduringie State School: 45 per cent
Murgon State School: 42 per cent
