Marist College Ashgrove teacher allegedly abused, pelted with food by group of male students

An investigation has been launched into an alleged disturbing incident at one of Brisbane’s most prestigious private schools, with the female teacher involved yet to return to work.

A female teacher at one of Brisbane’s most prestigious private schools has allegedly been abused by a group of male students.

The allegations claim that a teacher at Marist College in Ashgrove was surrounded by a group of male students who then hauled abuse at her and threw food at her.

The teacher, who is yet to be named, has not returned to work at the College.

The teacher involved in the alleged incident has not returned to work.

Head of College at Marist Michael Newman said they were aware of the incident and are now investigating.

“Firstly, the safety of our staff and students is our highest priority,” Mr Newman said in a statement issued to the Courier-Mail.

“Secondly, I am aware of the allegations raised by the union regarding this incident and while a number are factually incorrect, they are being taken seriously. The incident remains under investigation with staff and students.”

Queensland’s Independent Education Union which represents Marist College teachers, is also investigating the alleged incident.

“Our union supports and represents IEU-QNT members at Marist College Ashgrove,” branch secretary Terry Burke said.

“Following an incident involving students and staff last week, our union has directly expressed our members’ concerns to the school principal.”
