A bidding war has erupted between 16 registered hopeful buyers who battled it out for a Sunshine Coast couple’s Hamptons-style home.

Sandy and Wayne Julian’s property at 52 Prime Parade, Birtinya, recently sold at auction for $1.435m in front of a packed street.

The property was sold by Ray White Kawana’s Dan McNamara with 11 registered bidders on site for the proceedings and five interstate bidders involved over the phone.

Mr McNamara said the home was purchased by a Brisbane-based bidder.

Mrs Julian said more than 100 people lined the street to witness auctioneer James Goldsworthy in action.

“It was a bit of a flurry, there were so many people out the front,” Mrs Julian said.

“It was a big auction and an incredible result for us.

“We had never bought or sold at auction before and we were nervous on the day but it is a great result.”

The Julians on Monday signed a contract on land at Pelican Waters to start the process again.

She said it will be the couple’s sixth time building a new home from the ground up.

“We have built and sold quite a few times now but we are empty nesters now,” she said.

“Birtinya was a wonderful place to live but we just wanted to build again and the timing is right.”

Mrs Julian said they planned to rent locally until their home was ready.

The Julians said their former home at 52 Prime Parade was a beautiful place to live.

Mr McNamara said he launched the four-week campaign in the midst of the lockdown and Covid-19 restrictions, however it paid off.

“There was a lot of demand coming from interstate and city buyers,” Mr McNamara said.

“Birtinya is currently a booming suburb in hot demand and the house was unusual for the area as the sellers built the home to exacting standards while most other homes in the area are a modern style with square designs.”

Mrs Julian said they were over the moon with the sale and encouraged others to consider an auction.
