A historic Northern Rivers medical centre has changed hands in one of the only major commercial sales in the region in 2024.
The complex, on Murwillumbah’s Wollumbin St, sold for $1.925m in a deal brokered by Colliers agents Kye Ward and Louis Young.
It has operated as a medical centre for more than 90 years and last changed hands in 1988.
Its new owner, an undisclosed local businessman, is expected to revamp the building.
“We are pleased to have facilitated the sale of this iconic Murwillumbah property, which not only reflects the strong demand for medial facilities but also highlights the continued investment potential in Murwillumbah,” Mr Ward said.
“The new owner’s plans to modernise the building will ensure it remains a vital healthcare resource for the community for many years to come.
“It is rewarding to see this longstanding site, which has served the community for nearly a century, be repurposed to continue providing essential healthcare services to local residents.”
The medical complex is the largest sale of 2024 in the Northern Rivers hub and only the third commercial sale in Murwillumbah this year, totalling $3.155m.
There have only been 10 sales since January 2021 for a total of $19.35m.
It was built in the 1930s and has operated as a medical centre since.
A previous attempt to sell it at auction saw the property passed in.
Mr Young said there had been strong interest on the rare occasions commercial property in the area came to the market.
“The strong interest in this site underscores the ongoing demand for properties, particularly in regional markets like Murwillumbah,” he said.
“We worked closely with the vendors to showcase the property’s potential to a broad pool of buyers.
“This sale is a positive indicator of the strength of the local commercial property market, despite the relatively low volume of transactions in the recent years.
“The buyer, a local owner-occupier, is excited to bring new life to the building and ensure it continues to serve the community’s needs for many years to come.”
