The chance to own a gorgeous Sunshine Coast chapel is fast approaching as the owners prepare to auction off the wedding venue.
The Chapel of Angels lies just around the corner of Kondalilla Falls in Montville and has been listed for auction by Savvy Business on behalf of the owners Saskia Peek and Peter McQuitty.
Ms Peek said the chapel, with a beautiful garden and European-style castle turret, “has to be seen to be believed”.
“You walk down the sandstone stairs into the chapel entry and look to the right where there is a striking 3.25m leadlight window which was imported from England,” she said.
“Stepping through the double doors and you are greeted with columns that have been designed to look like marble working the way up to beautiful column capitals.”
The property is the final product of Ms Peek’s vision to establish a beautiful backdrop for international weddings and provide packages.
Her dream formed after a trip to Cairns working as a flight attendant – she was picked up by a limousine driver who told Ms Peek he had just dropped off a group of Japanese couples to a rainforest chapel.
Ms Peek said this “intrigued” her so she scouted for the perfect location and worked with Carlo Magini from Magica Building Design Pty Ltd to create her vision.
The Chapel of Angels officially opened on August 23, 2014 and was the “chapel of choice for many couples wishing to exchange their vows in a traditional wedding venue” for the first few years.
Savvy Business and the owners cannot give any price expectations, but it is estimated constructions costs were $1.6m.
Ms Peek encouraged the new owners to create their own dream, whether it be an art gallery, boutique cafe, funeral home, wellness centre or even a recording studio.
“Some have seen the potential of turning the chapel in to their private residence or building a private residence at the back of the property, while operating a business at the front,” she said.
They are now selling with Mr McQuitty in retirement and Ms Peek’s move up north where she is enjoying time with her family and dabbling in pottery and other forms of art, she said.
Ms Peek said she felt “blessed” to have been able to create a beautiful venue which brought happiness to visitors and she and Mr McQuitty have taken pride in the many compliments they have received.
Savvy Business broker Emmet Ryan said it is likely the chapel will be sold on or before the auction, having received lots of interest from among the Sunshine Coast, New South Wales and Victoria regions.
Mr Ryan said the property has been on and off the market previously but it is now listed on residential and commercial real estate sites.
The auction will be 0n-site at 9am on June 17, 2023
