More than a thousand Gold Coasters were plunged into darkness on Wednesday afternoon after high wind speeds caused power outages across the region.
At 5pm on Wednesday, 1179 Energex customers in the Gold Coast City Council area were without power.
The hardest hit areas were hinterland areas like Springbrook, Numinbah Valley, Tallai and Austinville.
The outages were all caused by trees and tree branches falling on powerlines, spokesman for Energex Danny Donald said.
Additional crews have been sent into the field to help get power back online as soon as possible.
