A woman has been run over by her own car in an alleged violent carjacking at Casey Hospital in Berwick.

Police were called to reports of the woman being hit by a car at the hospital at about 10.45am on Wednesday.

It’s alleged a man who was leaving the hospital saw the 66-year-old woman get out of her vehicle as she was assisting her husband to the emergency entrance and jumped behind the wheel.

When the Upper Beaconsfield woman tried to stop the man she was struck by the car as the offender took off.

Initially the woman was in a critical condition however on Wednesday afternoon her condition improved to serious but stable.

Police on Wednesday night arrested and charged a 25-year-old man — of no fixed address — at an address in Pioneer Bay.
