Toby Mitchell visits Sam Abdulrahim as bikie figures warned to lie low

Toby Mitchell is among the stream of visitors supporting Sam Abdulrahim in hospital, in a show of solidarity after his fellow ex-Mongol was gunned down.

Infamous former bikie Toby Mitchell visited his mate Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim in hospital on Tuesday.

Mitchell was among dozens of visitors to pay a visit to Abdulrahim after he was shot at up to eight times in Fawkner on Saturday.

When asked how his mate was going, Mitchell responded to a news reporter: “Suck my d---.”

The heavily tattooed Mitchell wore a patterned Adidas tracksuit for the hospital visit.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mitchell posted a screenshot of the Herald Sun’s report online.

“Rest up brother, you will be home in no time,” he posted on Instagram.

Mitchell departed the Mongols OMCG in April and was followed by Abdulrahim and Mark Balsillie.

The trio was subsequently followed by about 40 others who handed in their patches to the feared gang, as revealed in today’s Herald Sun.

The desolation of the Mongols has left about 15 current members in Victoria.

Their Northside and Echuca-based Riverside chapters are currently without members.

It comes as underworld figures are being warned to keep a low profile in the wake of the shock cemetery shooting ambush.

Abdulrahim, who is under gruard at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, received at least three bullet wounds in the ambush but has been in contact with friends and family who say he is “laughing” and in “good spirits” as fears rise that other leading bikie identities could come under threat.

Meanwhile, the two hit men who botched the Abdulrahim hit were called “amateurish’’.

Victoria Police’s armed crime unit and the anti-bikie Echo task force are still to identify the gunmen who planned to kill the underworld figure as he drove from his cousin’s funeral.

Photos have emerged on social media of Abdulrahim’s bullet-riddled chest a day after he posed in his hospital bed flipping the bird at his enemies.

But insiders say it won’t be long before Abdulrahim’s foes strike again. “It won’t end,” said a source who wanted to stay anonymous.

“They’ll have another crack eventually.”

Fears Melbourne on brink of gang war

There are fears Melbourne might be on the brink of a Sydney-style war, which exploded again Monday night.

Former Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu died in the early hours of Tuesday after being shot up to 10 times in Sydney’s inner west, leaving him fighting for life in hospital.

Two years ago a jury found Nazlioglu not guilty of the execution murder of Comanchero boss Mick Hawi, who was gunned down in broad daylight in Sydney, in 2018.

Monday night is the latest in a shocking run of Sydney gangland violence, which has seen 13 executions in the past two years and many attempted hits.

The latest incident comes after the Victorian government has been warned its bikie legislation was inadequate.

On Monday former Gold Coast superintendent Jim Keogh, the man behind Queensland’s crackdown on bikie gangs, said the latest shooting was a call to action for legislative changes in Victoria.

“Police officers need ammunition to go into battle and that ammunition comes in the form of legislation,” Supt Keogh said.

Several underworld figures who have spoken to Abdulrahim said he was “upbeat” even though a bullet was believed to have fractured his spine.

“He was pretty upbeat,” the source said.

“Four bullets were to the chest and one went in his back. He was fairly lucky.”

Another said Abdulrahim was able to laugh despite his extensive injuries and said those who carried out the hit would be boasting about it.

Although names are yet to emerge about who was behind the hit, it is believed Abdulrahim would know.

“Sam would know,” the source said.

Abdulrahim is known to have had conflict with numerous groups involved in a power struggle in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

“We are talking about a bloke that doesn’t mind some conflict,” a source familiar with the northern suburbs landscape said.

“He’s not scared. He’s had his issues over the years and he doesn’t run from his problems. They got him at a vulnerable time. No one expects to be got at a funeral.”

Abdulrahim, who is under police guard at Royal Melbourne Hospital, has refused to speak to police.

The doctors treating the professional boxer were amazed he was alive, according to those close to him.

“They reckon it’s a miracle,” a source said.

Abdulrahim was shot up to eight times and sustained damage to internal organs including his lungs, kidneys and liver.

By Sunday, the 32-year-old was taunting his shooters from his hospital bed, posting a photo on social media of himself flipping his middle finger.

“Allah is bigger than all these flops, they’ll get there (sic) day,” he captioned it.

The gunmen remain on the run and no arrests have been made. In the chaotic moments after the attack, Abdulrahim drove by his attackers on Box Forest Rd, near Fawkner Cemetery as he made a dash for medical help.

Since the ambush, police have proactively set about disrupting further attacks.

The Herald Sun can reveal a relative of slain underworld heavy Nabil Maghnie was shot on Sunday morning.

No links have been made to the attack on Abdulrahim, but it is believed the victim was unwilling to speak to police.

“Police are investigating after a man self-presented to a hospital in Epping with what is believed to be a gunshot wound,” a Victoria Police statement said.

“The man is being treated for serious injuries.”

Who would want to kill The Punisher?

Several theories are emerging about who would want to kill Abdulrahim.

He has been under constant threat since he was first released on parole in March 2019 after serving two years in jail for crashing his Ferrari into cars and killing 88-year-old Muriel Hullett.

Over four months, Abdulrahim moved house five times for safety reasons on the advice of police.

On June 12, 2019, his parole was revoked because of the danger he posed to the public after three attempts on his life.

Police believed Abdulrahim was the intended target of:

A DRIVE-BY shooting in Brunswick where bullets were shot into the house next door to Abdulrahim’s;

A POTENTIAL shooting when Abdulrahim’s sister was driving a vehicle known to belong to Abdulrahim. Two men followed her and while beside her vehicle pointed a handgun at her. Police believed she could have been shot as a result of mistaken identity; and

A SHOOTING at a house where the occupant boasted he was Abdulrahim’s younger cousin.

Four men turned up at the house and three fired shots into the premises, narrowly missing the occupants.

Police hope the hit men left important clues to their identity at the Fawkner crime scene.

Officers are forensically examining the Mazda CX-9 getaway car, which dashcam footage shows pulling alongside Abdulrahim’s Mercedes-Benz G-Class to shoot him.

Abdulrahim moments later drove by his attackers as they fled from the getaway car they crashed into a fire hydrant. A gun was found in the Mazda that could give police clues to the assailants’ identities.

Police are investigating the possibility the Mongols motorcycle gang was behind the hit on Abdulrahim, due to lingering bad blood over the departures from the gang of Toby Mitchell and Mark Balsillie in April.

Close to 40 former patched members have since left. The club’s Northside and Echuca-based Riverside chapters are without members, while the Eastside chapter has three left.

It is believed the Mongols membership has dwindled to about 15 bikies in Victoria.
