Shock picture emerges of Sam Abdulrahim gunshot wounds after failed assassination

A graphic image has emerged of ex-Mongols bikie Sam Abdulrahim in hospital after he was peppered with bullets at a funeral on the weekend.

A graphic photo has emerged of a bullet-riddled ex-Mongols bikie Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim in hospital after he was dramatically shot at a funeral.

It came as a leading gangland source warned: “This isn’t going to stop.”

Abdulrahim’s mates believe the failed attempt to assassinate him on Saturday was the work of low-ranking Mongols acting on the commands of the bikie gang’s senior hierarchy.

Police fear the ambush on the influential former member of the outlaw bikie gang will spark a series of deadly reprisals.

Already by Sunday, the 32-year-old was taunting his shooters from his hospital bed, posting a photo on social media of himself flipping his middle finger.

“Allah is bigger than all these flops, they’ll get there (sic) day,” he wrote in the caption.

Suleiman “Sam” Abdulrahim was shot in a brazen daylight ambush.

Abdulramin has since taunted his shooters from his hospital bed.

Abdulrahim was peppered with bullets while driving his $300,000 Mercedes G-Class 4WD in his cousin’s funeral procession near Fawkner Cemetery, in Melbourne’s north, on Saturday just after noon.

Police are investigating whether Abdulrahim, who has damage to his lungs, liver and a kidney, fired back at his would-be assassins.

While Abdulrahim’s injuries were serious, the failed hit had hallmarks of amateurism; the former boxer was not ­fatally wounded and the driver was captured in dramatic footage crashing the getaway car, a Mazda SUV, into a fire hydrant a short distance from the shooting.

A gun was left behind in the totalled Mazda, while the shooters are also understood to have dumped clothing outside a Kia car dealership.

After carrying out a terrifying carjacking on a mum and her four-year-old son shortly after the crash, police late on Saturday night, found that Ford Territory had been torched in Epping.

Tash, the owner of the burnt out car, described to 7 News the moment the men pointed a gun at her head at a service station.

She pleaded with the gunmen to leave her son alone, saying, “Don’t hurt him, please don’t hurt him”.

“All I remember is a gun pointed at my face,” she said. “The next thing I know, I’m pulling my kid out of the car.

“I just told him, I’ve got a kid, I’ve got a kid. Thinking back, if I had hesitated … he had just recently shot somebody, he wouldn’t have hesitated to shoot me.”

Tash said she was “in shock and just fell straight to the ground” after the carjacking.

“I couldn’t talk,” she said. 

She said she had a simple message for the gunmen: “How could you do this to my kid? To put him through (that) is unforgivable. He’s going to have nightmares for pretty much the rest of his life.”

Abdulrahim is an ex-Mongol and kickboxer turned professional boxer.

He was booted from the club earlier this year.

Abdulrahim – who managed to drive himself to Fawkner police station ­despite having at least three bullets in his chest – has a ­notoriously wide net of allies in the underworld, including a close-knit group that left the Mongols earlier this year and an influential Melbourne-based Middle Eastern organised crime family.

He was booted along with allies and fellow prominent Melbourne-based Mongols members, including Toby Mitchell, Mark Balsillie and Jason Addison.

Gangland sources said Balsillie and Abdulrahim were kicked out of the Mongols for “treachery” to the gang and their close association with Mitchell.

It’s believed they were ordered to fly from Melbourne to the Gold Coast to face gang bosses.

Mitchell was kicked out of the Mongols on April 1, in what he initially thought was an April Fool’s joke.

The attack on Abdulrahim came just days after Addison was brutally bashed at a motorbike show in regional Victoria, with an underworld source warning: “They’re all targets now. This isn’t going to stop.”

But he also has a long list of enemies, and his shooting has sparked fears of a series of tit-for-tat revenge attacks similar to those that began in Sydney in late 2020.

The fact those close to him suspect the Mongols were behind the attack shows just how bitter was the falling out between the gang’s current leadership and those who left earlier this year.

The list of suspected gunmen includes nominees trying to earn their “patch” in the gang, or low-ranking patched members acting on orders of the gang’s senior leadership.

Targeting Abdulrahim at a funeral will also be seen as a particularly provocative act.

The fact the gunmen, or their taskmasters, got wind of his attendance, and obtained firearms and a getaway car at short notice suggests the work of a group, rather than two men on their own.

Despite the focus on ­Abdulrahim’s former gang mates, investigators say they will not limit their manhunt to Mongols figures.

Premier Daniel Andrews warned the people involved in the shooting should expect to “feel the full force of the law”.

“This is just not on,” he said on Sunday.

“I send my best wishes to those members of the public who’ve been caught up in this.

“I won’t comment any further on those who are directly involved.

“Victoria Police Command takes issues of gangs and gun crime very, very seriously, just as I do.

“I’m confident that Victoria Police … have the laws, they’ve got the powers and they’ve got the people to keep us safe.

“These are very live matters and of a deeply operational matter.

“But I’m very confident that the people involved in this completely unacceptable behaviour will feel the full force of the law.”
