Shane Warne’s children — Brooke, Jackson and Summer — want to help ensure another family doesn’t need to endure the same heartache they have faced.

Sitting down writing this letter has made us realise the weight of our dad’s impact on our lives.

To the world, he may be a cricket legend, but to us, he’s more – our hero, our number one guide, and the force driving everything we did and still do.

Growing up in the shadow of his achievements, we’ve witnessed first-hand the dedication, passion, and hard work that fuelled his success.

His commitment to excellence, both on and off the field, wasn’t just a model for us; it was a constant motivation for everyone close to him.

These days, it’s clearer than ever how he pushed each one of us to give everything a crack and go “all in” in life.

It’s the little moments that we remember the most.

His sense of humour, him having a bad beat in poker, dancing with no rhythm on our TikTok’s just because we asked, – watching him smash down his “famous” pasta dish with its secret ingredient are just little memories we will never forget.

The spot-on advice he always gave, and being able to go to him for advice with any problem are things we honestly miss.

He was always there for us, no matter what.

His resilience in the face of challenges taught us the true meaning of strength.

He never hung onto negativity, was able to let things go so easily, always highlighting the importance of chasing dreams relentlessly and the value of standing tall in hard times.

He never took life too seriously and nothing was impossible. He would say “find a way”.

After he tragically left this world, his love and support have been our anchor, helping us navigate our grief.

We know he wouldn’t want us to be sad, and that understanding has been our driving force.

As the world honours his legacy, we’re honouring our dad who was our pillar of strength, our confidant, and our loudest cheerleader.

We will be eternally grateful for the too-short time we had with him, and his values will forever be our guide through life.

We’re immensely proud of the Shane Warne Legacy team, who were dad’s team in life for nearly 20 years – they are ensuring dad will be remembered as he deserves, doing precisely what he would want – giving a leg up to those in need.

His legacy, one of making a difference, is nothing short of extraordinary. He would love this.

We aim to reciprocate the love and guidance dad provided us throughout our lives by continuing the legacy he left behind.

It’s our heartfelt commitment to sustain the legacy on his behalf.

We believe if dad had taken one of these tests, he might still be with us today.

We don’t want any family to endure the heartache we’ve faced and sadly, millions of others have faced, and dad wouldn’t want that either.

With love and gratitude,

Brooke, Jackson & Summer

We find solace in Shane Warne Legacy

As of today, 633 days have passed since we said goodbye to our cherished son, Shane, lost to a sudden heart attack during a holiday in Thailand with his mates.

Though Shane’s physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit envelops us every day, offering a comforting solace that only a parent who has lost a son or daughter can understand.

The impact Shane left on people and the remarkable achievements of his 52 years were truly extraordinary. As his parents, our hearts swell with pride for the positive difference he made in so many lives.

Now, that pride extends to the Legacy born from his memory and its potential future accomplishments.

The Shane Warne Legacy holds a sacred place in our hearts, a testament to Shane’s enduring influence, and we find solace in knowing it will carry on making a positive impact, just as he would have wanted. Shane was never one to stay down for long; he always found a way to make the best of a challenging situation.

When we reflect on Shane’s passing in March 2022, we can’t help but wonder if a heart test might have revealed an issue, allowing him to take preventive measures. The first initiative of the Legacy strives to offer others this crucial opportunity, sparing their loved ones the heart-wrenching anguish of a sudden loss. Providing this chance to other families is a source of immense pride for us, hoping they don’t endure the same fate we have.

As the Australian summer approaches and the MCG prepares for the cricket season and the Boxing Day Test, the void left by Shane’s absence is keenly felt. The “G” was Shane’s office, and now, with the Southern Stand named the Shane Warne Stand, attending matches is a bittersweet experience.

This year, as we gaze at the MCG Stand bearing our son’s name, we’ll reflect on his moments of brilliance with a mix of pride and longing.

With heartfelt love,

Keith & Brigitte Warne
