Crown to give away tickets to sold out Melbourne Taylor Swift concerts

Swifties have been offered a golden opportunity to score last minute tickets to one of Taylor Swift’s three sold out MCG concerts. But they need to act quickly.

Taylor Swift fans desperate to go to one of her three sold out Melbourne shows have been thrown a lifeline with Crown to give away the hottest tickets in town in a prize giveaway.

It comes as city hotels start selling out and pubs and restaurants put up full house signs amid an avalanche of fans descending on Melbourne for the US superstar’s MCG concerts on February 16, 17 and 18.

Amid an unprecedented ticket crush, fans who missed out on tickets have been forced to pray any become available on the official Ticketek resale site or illegally buy seats at hugely inflated prices from scalpers.

But Crown will give away 10 double A reserve passes in the next week to those hoping to see the US superstar smash crowd records in Melbourne.

From now until January 29, Crown customers can enter a draw for Swift tickets when they spend $10 at Crown Melbourne’s restaurants, hotels and shops.

More ticket prizes will be given away until February 6 to guests who stay at Crown Metropol.

Crown Melbourne chief executive Mike Volkert expected to see an increase of at least 70 per cent foot traffic during the week of the Swift concerts.

“We have seen a surge in bookings for Crown Towers, while Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade still have availability for those who have left booking to the last minute,’’ he said.

Crown expects to sell 2000 bottles of champagne and Crown Towers is sitting at 97 per cent occupancy for the Friday and Saturday night concerts.

Incredibly, Crown Melbourne received more than 250,000 entries for an earlier Taylor Swift ticket giveaway in November and December.

“Given the interest, we have announced another giveaway and wish all those fans still looking for tickets the best of luck,’’ he said.

Hotel groups reported the same surge in bookings across Melbourne on the nights 12-time Grammy winner Swift is booked to play the MCG.

Australian Hoteliers Association Victoria general manager Dougal Hollis said many city hotels near the MCG were “at or very near full capacity”, on the Friday and Saturday night Swift takes over town.

“Booking demand is particularly strong from leisure travellers, many travelling in small groups,’’ he said.

“Swifties are very loyal and passionate concert goers.’’

He said the fact The Eras Tour would not play in Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane meant Melbourne hotels were experiencing “strong booking demand from interstate guests.’’

Many properties were planning in-hotel Swift activations to “surprise and delight” fans.

“These include pop up bracelet making stations -a Swifties’ fan favourite- and a range of Swift song-inspired cocktails,’’ he said.

Australian Hoteliers Association Paddy O’Sullivan said pubs and cafes would be packed.

“The concert has turned Melbourne into a carnival atmosphere and every local pub across Melbourne is welcoming the opportunity to welcome people who wouldn’t otherwise be in town and t make it a special occasion,’’ he said.

Ovolo South Yarra and Laneways by Ovolo are both 90percent booked out occupancy over the weekend Swift in Melbourne for her highly anticipated The Era’s Tour
