Angry pub patrons took matters into their own hands when a young hoon in a stolen car began causing chaos outside their local watering hole in Townsville.

Regulars at the Avenues Tavern in Kirwan were enjoying their drinks when a gang of youths in a stolen car came screeching down Elphinstone Road, Kirwan on Monday.

The reckless teenage driver, behind the wheel of a stolen blue Honda HR-V Wagon, blew out a front tyre but kept doing burnouts, while his mates in a stolen white Lexus cheered him on nearby.

Fed up with the brazen antics, a couple of furious bystanders stormed the street to confront the boy as the car slowed to a crawl with its flat tyre.

One woman, who asked her identity be withheld, tried to open the passenger door of the car but it was locked.

“The guy jumped in the back passenger seat, so I grabbed him through the open window by his shoulders and he just laughed at me,” she said.

“Another bystander had a baseball bat and smashed a window on the driver’s side.”

The bystanders then chased the boy as he jumped out of the stolen Honda and ran to his friends who were waiting in the stolen white Lexus nearby.

“I just wanted them to be caught,” the woman said.

“I was honestly pissed off that men were standing around just watching. The car was going slow!

“All I could think about was stopping them and getting the cars.

“The cars belong to people! I’d want someone to try to get my car back if it was stolen.”

Police said both cars had been reported stolen from a home on Renecol Ave, Rasmussen on Sunday. They were both located with damages on Monday.

Investigations are ongoing.
