Arrests in Townsville

A TEAM of police officers were assaulted during a search of a Kirwan house where multiple people were arrested over car thefts and burglaries.

About 8.20am on Tuesday, police arrived at Easterbrook Cres in Kirwan looking for a 13-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy in relation to a car theft.

But during the arrest, three adults inside the house fired up and allegedly attacked police.

Police bodycam footage shows a woman lashing out at a female officer’s face while in the laundry.

Other officers step in to try and control the woman, who is shown thrashing around to try and avoid arrest.

The second boy also tried to avoid arrest by running out the front door when police knocked.

A police officer can be heard warning the boy to “get on the ground”, but he ignores the command and tried to run around police on the small front porch.

The officers were too quick and tackled the boy, appearing to fall down the front steps before detaining him on the grass of the front yard.

The 17-year-old Oonoonba boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage of police property. He will face court at a later date.

The 13-year-old Rasmussen boy was charged with three counts of enter dwelling with intent, two counts of unlawful use and one count of burglary. He was refused bail.

Police will allege the Oonoonba boy was involved in the theft of a car at Corella Crescent, Mount Louisa on April 4.

It will also be alleged the Rasmussen boy was involved in a burglary and car theft at Ahearne St, Hermit Park on May 19, and another car theft at Carmody St, Hyde Park on March 10.

A 22-year-old Burdell man, a 44-year-old Rasmussen woman and a 27-year-old Kirwan woman were all charged with serious assault, among other offences.
