The man who rivalled Johnathan Thurston and Julian Assange in our reader’s voting stakes for Townsville’s most recognisable face will now put his comedy chops on display for Tiny Mountain’s upcoming third birthday celebration.

Justin Fimmel, the name behind Townsville News Flash, a satirical Facebook page that frequently targets the Townsville Bulletin, laughed off suggestions the paper should receive a sponsorship for inspiring much of his act.

“You’ll get a few mentions,” Mr Fimmel said.

“I guess the whole notion of the page is something I think a lot of people can resonate with, which is that though we do take the mickey out of quite a lot of things locally, it’s all about having a good heart.

“We try to have little giveaways on the page and we try to be involved in events like this where we’re raising money.”

The occasion, which will be held this Saturday from midday at the combination pub and brewery, will also endeavour to raise funds for the Gotcha4Life charity.

“To promote that sort of mental wellbeing and helping support those talks that are happening next year. So we can all have a laugh at ourselves, but at the end of the day, it does have a serious aspect and it’s about supporting each other,” Mr Fimmel said.

Tiny Mountain’s Venue Manager Tim Bennie said that while the day would support a great cause, it would also be nice to celebrate the business’ third year running.

“It’s going to be fantastic. We’re going to have free face painting, PB & Js Donuts will be here with a pop up venue, there’ll be live music throughout the day and of course the very first live show from Townsville News Flash,” Mr Bennie said.

“We’ve got a new stout coming out on the day, it’s a birthday cake flavoured stout. We’ll even have our very first shuffleboard competition.”

Both Hazy the Entertainer and Peta Cherae will be performing live throughout the day, but Fimmel’s comedy stylings will also be supported by several notable faces.

Namely, Nick Dametto, Phil Thompson and Jenny Hill, who were all eager to come on-board, said Fimmel.

“I guess in the five years I’ve had the page, I’ve developed some unique relationships with them,” Mr Fimmel said.

“I’ll be using them in relation to their involvement with the page, so with Phil his thing on the page is Phil Thompson does things, so we’ll have him dressing up as numerous photo opportunities in the space of a few minutes.
“Nick, he’s known as the people’s rig, so we’ll have him do an arm wrestling type competition.”

As for the mayor, Mr Fimmel has remained tight-lipped on what her involvement will entail, but promises it’ll deliver.
