A WOMAN who was thrown from a scooter on the highway was rushed into surgery after the accident left her with a brain bleed.
The 27-year-old woman was driving a 100cc motor scooter on the Bruce Highway at Wulguru at 10.40am on Saturday morning when she clipped a passing vehicle travelling in the same direction, in another lane.
A Queensland Police spokesman said the woman was “thrown” from the scooter, and transported to Townsville University Hospital while unconscious.
She suffered from suspected head injuries, and was bleeding from the mouth, nose and ears.
“She was rushed to surgery for a bleed on the brain,” the spokesman said.
Police have since seized both the woman’s helmet and scooter, with the scooter to be inspected to eliminate any mechanical faults.
The forensic crash unit is investigating the accident.
A Townsville Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman said the woman was in a “critical but stable” condition on Sunday morning.
