THE cream of the crop of North Queensland’s construction sector had every reason to celebrate after the latest industry awards, with several Townsville businesses taking out the top spots.

The best in tropical housing construction, design and innovation across North Queensland were brought together for the The Housing Industry Association – CSR (HIA) 2021 Housing and Kitchen and Bathroom Awards evening in Townsville on Friday.

Townsville business New Home Solutions took out the Project Home of the Year, while Moduline Kitchens took out Kitchen of the Year, and the Bathroom Design of the Year award.

David Moore Cabinetmaking and Bauer Constructions were awarded the Kitchen Design of the Year award.

HIA Regional Director Peter Fry said that despite the challenges faced by industry from the Covid-19 pandemic, material and skills shortages, the HIA had still seen entries of a “high quality” across North and central Queensland.

“The high quality of the workmanship in the entries made the judge’s decisions a very difficult process,” Mr Fry said.

“Each year the awards consistently attract an outstanding array of entries from across the region recognising building craftsmanship, design excellence and raising the bar in contemporary design, construction innovation and housing technology.”

Each major North Queensland award winners are set to progress to represent North Queensland as finalists at the national HIA Australian Housing Awards, to be held on the Gold Coast in 2022.

• Keir Constructions (Townsville) (Residential Interior Design, Residential Building Design, Custom Built Home up to $450,000)
• New Home Solutions (Unique and Difficult Sites, Custom Built Home $650,001-$850,000 Project Home of the Year)
