‘I could be the mayor of Townsville’: Pauly Fenech ready for ‘wild’ return
Star of FatPizza and Housos, Pauly Fenech has turned a lot of heads with his madcap humour, but his latest statement about Townsville might be the boldest yet.

Madcap comedian Pauly Fenech is not only lampooning the world of local politics in his upcoming show ‘Local Council’ in the same style of his existing works ‘Housos’ and ‘FatPizza’, but he’s also signalled he’d be more than happy to take a run at the top job in Townsville.
Fenech, who’ll touch down in Northern Queensland for a show at the Townsville RSL on Friday, December 2, has been riding a high, with plenty of screentime throughout the recent lockdown.
“There’s been so much work for us and the lockdowns really didn’t get in the way that much, we were able to shoot two whole series of Housos and a series of Pizza, so we did pretty well,” Fenech said.
“Now we’re working on this new show, Local Council, which’ll be looking at everything that happens at your local council. It’s been really funny to make and we’re hoping people really love it.”
The show will debut sometime early next year and is in the final stages of shooting, leaving Fenech free to use all his beloved characters, past and present, at his solo show at the RSL.
“I love it, meeting real aussies, especially getting around the country. Queensland has the best audiences, they’re the funniest, most wildest,” Fenech said.
“I’ve had glasses and punches thrown before, I’ve had sexual favours offered. I’d expect nothing less up there.
“I get among it, we drink, we party. It’s not just a comedy show, we’re all having a mad time, it’s all of us.”
Fenech, who turned heads when he was a serious contestant on SAS Australia and admits he “regrets not hitting a few people”, said it was easy to return to Townsville.
“If I didn’t have to work doing these TV shows down south, I’d be the mayor of Townsville, I could see myself wandering around, down that nice promenade, kissing babies on the head, thongin’ idiots. Maybe I’ll have a go at it.”
