Toowoomba’s fuel prices hit three-year high

City drivers are being urged to go above and beyond to choose cheaper petrol stations and options as fuel prices soar to new records.

Californian electric car users choose to revert back to 'convenient' petrol automobiles

It’s time for Toowoomba drivers to be more strategic about where they fill up – this is the message from the state’s leading motoring body as the city’s fuel prices continue to rise.

The average price for unleaded in Toowoomba in July was 148.8cpl, the highest since the all-time record was set in October 2018.

RACQ spokeswoman Renee Smith said Toowoomba was just one town in regional Queensland dealing with a spike in prices.

“While July’s price in Toowoomba was cheaper than Brisbane’s monthly average, it was unfortunately above the regional Queensland average of 145.6cpl,” Ms Smith said.

“Petrol and diesel prices in regional Queensland are, on average, at their highest level in more than 20 months.

“Roma was again the cheapest place to fill up the tank, with an average price of 139.4cpl, followed by Maryborough and Miles.”

Ms Smith said petrol prices were largely controlled by oil price fluctuations.

“The lag between oil price movements and retail price movements varies around Queensland but is typically two to six weeks,” she said.

“Regardless of what’s impacting fuel prices globally, we all have the power in our hands to save at the bowser by taking advantage of the servos selling fuel cheaper.”
