A Toowoomba woman who sped away from police while driving disqualified has copped more than $8500 in fines.
A police patrol had captured Lexene Joan Weribone on police camera driving a Commodore sedan on Mirle St, Harristown, about 3.15pm, February 2, and pulled in behind her.
When she turned onto James St, police activated lights and siren for her to pull over but the 22-year-old had accelerated away, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
When she sped away from them on Helen St, police pulled out of the attempted intercept, prosecutor Cameron Francis told the court.
Checks of her driving record showed Weribone was subject to a three-month driving disqualification which was due to expire later that month.
Weribone was captured on CCTV driving into a Ruthven St service station about 2am, February 25, and police had approached and arrested her but she had struggled, Mr Francis said.
Bailed to appear in court on March 29, she had failed to appear in court, he said.
Eventually found on July 24, Weribone repeatedly gave a false name to police despite warnings and when detained she had yelled abuse at officers, Mr Francis said.
The minimum fine for evading police was $6892 or 50 days jail actually served, he told the court.
Weribone pleaded guilty to all charges.
Her solicitor Dan Habermann said the 22-year-old was from Dalby and had been suffering homelessness for a time but was now in stable accommodation in Toowoomba.
Magistrate Howard Osborne fined Weribone a total $8792, which was referred to SPER, and disqualified her from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for four years and three months.
