Toowoomba’s 4 Brothers Brewing to sell The Brewhouse in CBD after unsuccessful expansion bid
Toowoomba’s first craft brewing company could be saying goodbye to the Garden City after its owners put their CBD venue, and the business, on the market.

The owner of the pioneering business in Toowoomba’s growing craft brewing industry looks set to call time after putting its CBD venue up for sale.
4 Brothers Brewing’s Adrian Cubit has put the Brewhouse pub on Margaret St on the market in what he has described as a “unique opportunity”.
The move comes nearly three years after Mr Cubit opened the venue and relocated his brewery after first establishing the business in 2017.
Mr Cubit said the sale would see the new owner take over the seven-year lease, buy all the assets and even the business itself.
“There are two options with the sale – one is an asset sale, the other is the company as well, 4 Brothers Brewing which is the branding,” he said.
“We’ve got 15 taps, we just installed solar power, the brewing equipment cost more than $160,000 to buy, ship and install.
“If it’s just an asset sale, we could keep the 4 Brothers Brewing parked on the sideline, with the potential to look at something in two or three years’ time. The space is leased, so there are seven years left on the lease with two five-year options.”
Mr Cubit said he could foresee the space being taken over by an existing pub or brewery, but believed it was a chance for someone to enter the industry.
“In my mind, there are several groups of potential buyers who would be interested in this,” he said.
“One would be a small pub group looking to save money on excise and brew the beer here and send it to the other venues.
“The third group would be anyone looking to open a brewery — they take a lot of time and money to set up, and here’s one ready to go.
“We’re pretty flexible with negotiating terms and offering on-the-job training.”
The sale was prompted after Mr Cubit and his wife Josie failed to secure an expansion deal with a country pub.
“From there, I can’t see any other ways we could expand at the moment, so instead we’re going to go the other way,” he said.
“I’ve been offered a new job elsewhere (so) we’re trying to run a short campaign.”
Mr Cubit said he was proud of how 4 Brothers had shown there was a viable market in Toowoomba for craft brewing.
“We were the first when we opened, and we were the only ones for the first two years — we wanted to bring a small brewery into the city and now there are five in Toowoomba,” he said.
