A Western Downs mum has welcomed her first child into the world in Toowoomba on New Year’s Day — which also happened to be her own birthday.

Glenmorgan producer Molly-Grace Sutton, part of the Penfold clan that owns the Four Daughters brand of grain-fed beef and multiple properties based in western Queensland, and her husband Tom celebrated the birth of their son Wally on January 1 at St Vincent’s Private Hospital.

The healthy boy was born at 5.19pm weighing in at 3.47kg, nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.

Ms Sutton said the arrival was a beautiful surprise considering she herself was a New Year’s baby.

“We’re very grateful to our obstetrician Dr David Chettle and the maternity team at St Vincent’s Toowoomba who have been so helpful and informative,” she said.

“We’re absolutely smitten with our beautiful boy.

“Wally was 12 days early – I started going into labour on New Year’s Eve and things happened from there.”

It is the Penfold family’s first grandchild, but the fifth on Mr Sutton’s side.

Ms Sutton, one of the four daughters that make up the name of Dan and Karen Penfold’s major beef operation, said her sisters had already gotten to know their beautiful nephew.

“Having our first baby is mind boggling and surreal but truly wonderful and we’re very excited and can’t wait to get him home and get into a routine,” she said.

“My sisters – Wally’s three aunts – have already been up to the hospital and were very happy to have their first cuddle of our gorgeous new baby.”

The couple plan to head home on Sunday.

The Penfold family supplies premium beef domestically and into direct Chinese and Hong Kong markets.

St Vincent’s Hospital also enjoyed another rare milestone after a Toowoomba family celebrated Christmas Day with the birth of their fourth child.

Mirriam and Brendan Hill welcomed daughter Abigail on December 25 just before 11pm, weighing 4.1kg.

Ms Hill said Abigail’s siblings Felicity, Joshua and Henry were almost more excited than the couple for her arrival.

“We’ve received incredible care for every birth at St Vincent’s Toowoomba,” she said.

“The maternity team and Dr Anthony Cerqui were amazing.”

Abigail was only the second Christmas baby born at St Vincent’s Toowoomba in the past seven years.
