One of Toowoomba’s newest residents is set to be a brave and strong little girl after she was determined to be born early on Christmas Day in the midst of a wild storm.
Toowoomba residents Madalyn and Daniel May-lyons said 2023 was a very special Christmas for them after welcoming their healthy baby girl to the world - Ella Paige-Rose. Ella weighed six pounds, seven ounces.
She was the only baby born at the Toowoomba Hospital on Christmas Day.
The married couple were having Christmas dinner with family at Gatton when Madalyn began having contractions at the dinner table.
“They started out of nowhere at 6pm… and by 9.43 she was born,” she said.
“I was surprised because I had to be induced with my son, I didn’t have a natural labour, then all of a sudden I went into labour which I wasn’t supposed to.
“So that was a bit of a shock and it scared Daniel a little.”
The new mum said it took the pair about 45 minutes to get the hospital where she had an emergency C-section.
“We needed to stop off and get fuel because we weren’t expecting it, and then there was a storm that came through that was horrible to try and drive in,” she said.
The 25-year-old said she was apprehensive about Ella having to combine her birthday and Christmas celebrations at first.
“But I think it just made mine and Daniel’s Christmas presents for each other a lot better to be honest – I don’t think you could top that as a Christmas present.”
Little Ella was scheduled to be born via caesarean on Wednesday, December 27.
She is the May-lyons’ first child together.
