The case against a 33-year-old man charged with murder arising from the death of Crows Nest woman Krishna Chopra is expected to move along after the prosecution disclosed outstanding material.

Accused murderer Simon Jones was not required to be in Toowoomba Magistrates Court for the mention of his case on Thursday but was represented by his solicitor Alysha Jacobsen of Bouchier Khan Lawyers.

Krishna Chopra was found dead in her Park Road, Crows Nest, home in January 2022.

Ms Jacobsen told the court the defence had been awaiting outstanding statements in particular forensic reports but the prosecution had handed over a disc containing material prior to court.

She said she was as yet unaware what was in the material and asked for adjournment to go through that evidence.

Mr Jones has been held in custody since his arrest in March on a charge of murder arising from the death of his mother-in-law Krishna Chopra who was found dead in her Park Road home in Crows Nest in January.

Police believe she may have been killed some time around January 21, some 10 days before her body was found.

Preliminary autopsy results pointed to Ms Chopra having died from severe head trauma, police claim.

While police have not divulged any theories as to how the 61-year-old died, investigators had appealed for public help in identifying a metal bar which was allegedly found during a ground search near Ms Chopra’s home on Park Road.

Mr Jones has not as yet been called upon to enter any plea to the charge.

Magistrate Kay Phillipson remanded him in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on October 20.
