Rival NRL fans ready for kick-off in Toowoomba showdown

Toowoomba’s Clive Berghofer Stadium will be a sea of red, white and blue this Sunday when the Sydney Roosters and St George Dragons come to town for their NRL showdown.

ANOTHER chapter in the story of Dragons-Roosters rivalry will be written on Sunday, and three Toowoomba men will be at the heart of it.

Brothers Steven and Jarrod Lee are electricians working for the family business Lee Group Electrical and are familiar faces to the team at L & H Electrical Toowoomba.

The atmosphere around game day is a lot different to their regular business.

Like their father Richie, the Lee brothers are passionate St George Illawarra Dragons supporters.

L & H Electrical’s Troy McCarthy, however, is a vocal Sydney Roosters fan.

“The talk in the shop is all about the footy whenever we’re playing each other,” Steven Lee said.

“There’s always a bit of friendly sledging, but we haven’t had much to brag about lately though.”

Mr McCarthy has bragging rights with his Roosters beating the Dragons 34-10 on Anzac Day earlier this year – a game all three fans attended.

“The atmosphere was fantastic,” Mr McCarthy said. “It was a great game.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend as well.

“Having the game here is great, it will be good to be a bit closer to the action.”

With their tickets secured, the Lees are looking forward to watching the Dragons in Toowoomba for a second time.

“The last time the Dragons were here I was living just down the road. I was able to walk to the game,” Mr Lee said.

“The game is going to be great for the region.

“You can see everyone is excited, and it’s a boost for the community as well.

“It will really help our case for future events as well – especially for something like Toowoomba getting an Intrust Super Cup team.”
