Police investigating home invasion in Newtown where man was attacked with a machete

Police are on the hunt for four people who forced their way into a Toowoomba home and attacked the occupant with a machete.

A 51-year-old man is recovering after he was attacked in his home by four assailants armed with a machete.

According to the initial police report, the four offenders forced entry into a home in Cay St, Newtown about 3.30am on Wednesday.

The group was confronted by the male occupant and in the melee, he suffered a wound to his hand after he was struck by the machete.

The four offenders then left the scene with stolen property, including a black 2014 Toyota HiLux, which was later located on Greyfriars St in Rockville.

A 51-year-old Newtown man was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have relevant information to contact police.
