Friends have paid tribute to Jayden Usher after a body was found just metres from where the young man disappeared more than a week ago.
Police located a body about 9am on Wednesday in a vacant block on River Rd in Kingaroy.
It is understood the body has distinctive tattoos that match those of Mr Usher.
The 28-year-old man was last seen alive about 3am on October 5 in the company of several friends and associates at a home in Booth St.
Police believe he left the property on foot, heading towards Roberta St and went missing a short time later.
The discovery of a body matching Mr Usher’s has rocked the South Burnett community with many of his friends taking to social media to express their grief.
“To think you’re gone makes me sick in the stomach bro,” Matt Klein said.
“To laughs we had at work, to being able to vent to each other when needed, a great work mate and an awesome friend.
“Fly high bro! I’ll miss you.
“Rest in peace mate until we meet again.”
“This kid was a main character in our lives growing up,” Renae Cooper said.
“So many years and memories of absolute mischief.
“You have been in my thoughts since you were reported missing and gutted to hear the potential outcome this morning.”
“Fly high Jayden, you will be missed,” Janie Hinds said.
Police are continuing to investigate the matter and are waiting on autopsy results before they formally identify the body.
Darling Downs Detective Acting Inspector Paula Smithard said police were speaking with several of Mr Usher’s associates, including those who were with him at the Booth St home before he went missing.
“We’re talking to a lot of people at the moment, they’re not persons of interest they’re just friends, associates and family of Jayden so that we can paint a picture as to what has happened and the reasons for his disappearance,” she said.
“We’re still currently conducting our investigations, we’re in the preliminary stages we’ve only just located this male person. We need time and we’ve got the resources here to continue with our investigation.
“We would like the public to come forward with any kind of information and we’re keeping a very, very open mind.”
Police had the area blocked off to traffic through Wednesday as a forensic team started its analysis of the scene.
Acting Inspector Smithard said officers had conducted a search of the streets near the River Rd property earlier in the week, but did not locate the body until Wednesday morning.
“We were conducting inquiries along River Rd and one of the detectives walked into the yard and located the deceased male person,” she said.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the matter to come forward, along with anyone who locates Mr Usher’s blue iPhone 15 Pro as it remains outstanding.
“We are continuing to search in that vicinity and around that property for that phone,” Acting Inspector Smithard said.
