Elderly man assaulted

Dozens of Toowoomba residents have rallied together to support an elderly man who was allegedly attacked outside Grand Central on Monday afternoon.

Kelly Munro (nee Skowronski) was horrified to learn of the alleged violent robbery, and quickly took to her Toowoomba Acts of Kindness Facebook page in search of support for the man and his family.

“It could happen to any of us and that is frightening,” she said.

“They are breaking into homes, stealing cars and assaulting people all in broad daylight. I am scared for our elderly, vulnerable, our children and the many victims.”

The 75-year-old man was waiting at a taxi-rank when he was allegedly pushed from behind, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain serious head injuries before his backpack was allegedly stolen.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old Wilsonton man after they fled in an allegedly stolen vehicle, with the latter charged with grievous bodily harm, robbery using personal violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and enter dwelling and commit.

The 16-year-old was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and both were denied bail.

“It is important for me to help show the gentleman and his family the kindness that we have to offer.”

Members of the public have offered to donate home-cooked meals, gift cards, medical supplies and more in the hope of showing the elderly man there is good in the world.

If you would like to donate, you can contact Ms Munro through the Acts of Kindness Facebook page.
