A 39-year-old woman accused of stabbing a man in the neck and killing his cat during an altercation has had her case adjourned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Helen-Maree Noon has been remanded in custody since her arrest for attempted murder arising from the incident in the early hours of April 22, 2022, and was not required to be in court on Wednesday when her matters were mentioned

Police claim the Laidley woman went to the 50-year-old complainant man’s Grantham home and killed the man’s cat before allegedly entering the home.

It is further alleged that during an ensuing altercation, she stabbed the man in the neck.

The man, who was known to Ms Noon, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a serious condition.

However, it is believed he had since made a good recovery from his injury.

Ms Noon has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to charges of attempted murder, entering a dwelling with intent, possession of a knife in a public place and serious animal cruelty.

Her solicitor Alyshia Jacobsen, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, told the court on Wednesday a barrister had been consulted in regard to the case and a mental health assessment of Ms Noon completed.

However, the barrister suggested the defence seek funding for a second mental health assessment and an application for that Legal Aid funding had been made, she said.

Magistrate Louise Shephard therefore remanded Ms Noon in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on March 1.
