Mexican fast food chain Guzman Y Gomez has revealed when it will open the doors on its first drive-through restaurant in Toowoomba.
The massive franchise, which has more than 200 locations in four countries, will launch its Wilsonton site on February 15, creating about 70 jobs in the process.
It will be the company’s third restaurant in Toowoomba, having already established presences in South Toowoomba and at Grand Central Shopping Centre in the CBD.
It comes more than 18 months after the Toowoomba Regional Council gave GYG the green light to build after approving plans in October 2022.
Patrons will be able to grab $5 burritos and bowls on the opening day, with the restaurant also introducing a breakfast menu.
In a statement earlier this month, franchisee Dante Reynaud said the company was excited for the launch.
“GYG has given me so much and I can’t wait to give back to the local community,” he said.
“It’s crazy to think that now I’m opening up my third GYG.”
GYG is the latest popular brand to join Wilsonton’s $55m fast food precinct, which includes about a dozen top franchises within a few hundreds metres of the Wilsonton Shopping Centre.
It’s set to get even bigger, with Carl’s Jr to build its first Toowoomba store across the road from the GYG this year.
The Mexican chain has also chosen its latest community sponsorship, with the West Wanderers Football Club announcing the partnership on social media last week.
“We are very grateful to Guzman y Gomez Toowoomba for coming on board with us this season,” the club wrote.
“A new Guzman y Gomez store is opening in Wilsonton on Thursday February 15 and we encourage you all to take advantage of their special opening offers.”
