A BABY boy has been welcomed into the hamadrya baboon troop, with Darling Downs Zoo staff thrilled at the new addition.
Zoo owner and founder Stephanie Robinson said the cheeky little baboon was settling in with his family.
“The new baby is an adorable little boy, he gets picked on by all the other younger kids, and they’re always stealing him from mum,” she said.
“We have a very good baboon troop here, their original habitat is around Ethiopia and Egypt so they’re very used to this weather.
Ms Robinson said the group’s alpha male, Rameses, was a proud father, with other females in the troop alongside the baby’s mother help raise the young one.
“They’re great time wasters, they like to play and mess about and since there’s such a big group they keep people well entertained.”
Baboons can live to up to 35 years and are found in Egypt, Ethiopia, Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Yemen in semidesert, savanna and rocky areas.
