Lovers of Irish culture and descendants of the Emerald Isle from across Queensland have helped deliver Toowoomba’s largest St Patrick’s Day parade on record.
More than 200 people took part in the march through the Toowoomba CBD, ending with a massive afternoon at the Irish Club Hotel that featured traditional food, music and cultural touchstones.
Darling Downs Irish Club committee member Pauline Kenny said people came from across southeast Queensland to take part in the parade.
“We have a pub at Clifton who has a crew of nuns and popes and bishops dressed up,” she said.
“We always have someone dressed as St Patrick leading the parade, we had the Toowoomba Catholic bishop involved.
“Because we’re involved in events across southeast Queensland, the awareness of the club and our events is increasing and people come from Brisbane and both coasts to participate.”
Ms Kenny said locals with Irish heritage were invited to sign up to the club by emailing darlingdownsirishclub@gmail.com.
