Christopher Neale Roberts was out of jail just three days when caught exposing himself again

A 36-year-old with a reputation as a serial public masturbator had only been released from custody for a matter of days before he was caught offending again.

Australia's growing drug crisis

Toowoomba’s serial public masturbator and flasher was out of jail just three days when he was caught running naked around a Blue Mountain Heights neighbourhood.

Christopher Neale Roberts was released from jail on Friday after pleading guilty to running naked through a number of residential yards in the Mort Estate on the afternoon of August 5.

Having spent 30 days in pre-sentence custody, the 36-year-old was sentenced to four months in jail but released on immediate parole.

However, on Monday night about 8.25pm a woman at home in her Blue Mountain Heights home was alerted by her security system of movement outside the house, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday.

The woman checked her CCTV camera footage to see a naked man running about her yard and peering in through her windows, police prosecutor Bettina Trenear told the court.

Police called to the home checked the CCTV footage and immediately recognised Roberts from previous similar offending, she said.

Christopher Neale Roberts pleaded guilty before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on September 14, 2022, to trespassing and wilful exposure on September 12, 2022.

A search of the area failed to find the naked intruder but police found Roberts at a James Street hostel on Tuesday and took him into custody.

He appeared via video link from the watch house to plead guilty to trespassing and wilful exposure offences.

Duty solicitor Phil Stainton told the court the parole imposed last week had already been suspended and so his client would remain in custody.

Roberts was a father of three but he had no contact with his children and claimed to have no physical or psychological issues, he said.

His client’s offending had started in 2018 when he started using meth which was behind his offending, Mr Stainton said.

Roberts had gained a certain notoriety after a series of incidents of public masturbation and wilful exposure dating back to August 2021.

Magistrate Gary Finger sentenced Roberts to six months in jail but ordered he be eligible to apply for parole immediately.
