Brisbane Broncos premiership trophy tour thrills young fans in Toowoomba
The Brisbane Broncos brought their dual premiership trophies to Toowoomba, sparking dreams in young fans that they might one day win their own. PICS HERE:
As Oakey kid Jordan Bach held onto the NRL premiership trophy that was won by his beloved Brisbane Broncos this year, he had just one thing on his mind.
“(Holding it) feels like, one day I could win it,” the rugby league diehard said.
Jordan and his sister Sophie were among the dozens of “Bronxnation” supporters who filled Kia Toowoomba’s dealership showroom on Wednesday to catch a glimpse at the silverware collected by the glamour club from its blockbuster 2025 men’s and women’s seasons.
It is the latest stop in the club’s massive trophy tour across Queensland, which gives fans a chance to bask in the dual premiership glory — the first time a club has won both competitions in a calendar year.
Nine-year-old Jordan, who plays for the Oakey Bears and dreams of wearing the number 1 jersey currently held by superstar Reece Walsh, said the side’s courageous 26-22 victory over the Melbourne Storm on October 5 went a long way to repairing the trauma of the Broncos’ 2023 premiership heartache at the hands of the Panthers.
“Three years now (I’ve been fan), ever since the Broncos lost the grand final against Penrith — it made me sad,” he said.
“(This year) we were at our house, we were watching the grand final and we’d invited some of my friends over.
“I was worried at half time and I felt like we couldn’t do it, and then at full time I felt like ‘we’re the best team’.”
Broncos legend and triple-premiership winner Michael De Vere said Jordan’s desire to win his own trophy one day was the reason the club brought it out to the regions.
“That’s what’s good to see – the smile on people’s faces, how much it means, (because) they’ve waited so long,” he said.
“It inspires the next generation — the last time we won in 2006, (current Broncos lock) Patty Carrigan got a photo … with Petero Civoniceva and Shane Webcke and they were there with the trophy.
“He remembers saying that (seeing it) inspired him to want to one day win it.”
The men’s and women’s trophies were escorted by NRLW champions and hometown heroes Shenae Ciesiolka and Jada Ferguson, who got to take the silverware to their childhood primary schools at Oakey and Bunkers Hill.
Ferguson said she got a real kick out of meeting students, and potentially inspiring them to want to pursue rugby league.
“Every time you come back home they always welcome you with open arms and so much support,” she said.
“Going out to Shenae’s primary school was pretty special and going to my primary school was pretty cool.
“It’s just cool that little kids go to the schools that we went to and they could grow up to be something like us — the country kids can make it as well.”
