Aaron James Cant charged with producing ‘shotgun’ during alleged armed robbery of Toowoomba service station

The 32-year-old is accused by police of wielding what appeared to be a shotgun during the alleged armed robbery.

A 32-year-old man charged with the armed robbery of a Toowoomba service station has had his case adjourned in the city’s Magistrates Court.

Aaron James Cant was not required to be in court for the brief mention of his matters and has been held in custody since his arrest for the alleged incident in April.

Police claim the 32-year-old walked into Metro Petroleum on James Street at 4.23am on Tuesday, April 12, and asked the cashier for a packet of smokes.

While the cashier was retrieving the cigarettes, Cant allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a shotgun and allegedly demanded money and smokes.

The cashier complied and Cant allegedly fled on foot with what police at the time described as a “significant” amount of money.

The cashier was reportedly shaken up but otherwise not physically harmed in the alleged incident.

He has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges which include enter premises with intent, stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, using vehicle for which number plate attached recorded as cancelled, lost or stolen, stealing and unrelated matters of five counts of fraud and receiving tainted property.

The case was adjourned for mention back in the same court on October 31.
