Each cat has its own unique story and personality but all are committed to their own style of paw enforcement.

Lenny has chosen the most hostile place for a cat having moved into the NSW Police Force Dog Unit as a four-week-old.

He is known for killing rats and leaving body parts for his police carers to find.

“The organ in question changes each time,” NSW Police Force Dog Unit Kennel Coordinator Sophia said.

“He makes a game out of smooching up to people for pats, and then deciding without warning that they’re doing it wrong and correcting them with a swift paw.”

The newest catstable to join the ranks is Police Cat Splashe at the Bourke Police Station after joining as a six-month-old underweight kitten in February 2017.

The most famous police puss is Troop Cat Ed, who featured in a Daily Telegraph article in 2017. He lives and works at the NSW Police Force Mounted Unit at Redfern.

“Ed is very good at his job and the Mounted Unit rarely call for pest control assistance anymore,” one of his groomers said.

The Daily Telegraph last week released the Power 100 list of Sydney’s top movers and shakers.

Its runaway success has prompted the next instalment, the Meow 100 to catalogue the state’s most powerful and loved felines. The list will be released later this month.
