Two Tasmanian defendants have made bids for freedom after being charged with being accessories after the fact to the alleged stabbing murder of a dad in a street confrontation.

The two people charged with being accessories after the fact to the alleged murder of Mt Direction dad David Jenkins, 34, have made bids for freedom in court.

West Launceston duo Belinda Jayne Cox, 50, and Brett James Dilger, 58, appeared in the after hours sitting of Launceston Magistrates Court on Thursday night, and again on Friday.

Both applications were denied on Thursday night.

Ms Cox lists on Facebook that she was a former resident of George Town.

Ms Cox applied for bail again on Friday and was denied a second time. Both defendants had their charges adjourned to November 10

A weeping Ms Cox required transportation from the courthouse in an ambulance.

It’s understood she initially collapsed before suffering a series of seizures.

Two more charged after stabbing attack

Two more people have been charged with offences relating to the alleged murder of a northern Tasmanian man a week-and-a-half ago.

Mount Direction man David Jenkins, 34, was allegedly stabbed to death on a George Town street about 8.30pm on October 22.

On Thursday afternoon, Tasmania Police announced a 50-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, both of West Launceston, have been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Both will appear before an out of hours court in Launceston on Thursday night.

George Town trio Patrick Kenneth Dolbey, 37, Luke Anthony Shaw, 30, and Paul William Shaw, 32, have previously faced court charged with murdering Mr Jenkins.

All were remanded in custody and will reappear later this month.

Tasmania Police previously said Mr Jenkins was discovered on Lambert St suffering “multiple stab wounds” following a disturbance between four people known to each other.

Mr Jenkins was described by friends as a loving and dedicated father, son and brother who loved hunting and fishing.

Three men charged with murder after stabbing attack

Monday afternoon: Tasmania Police have charged three men with murder after a man was stabbed multiple times in George Town on Saturday night.

The men, aged 30, 32, and 37, all from George Town, have been remanded in custody to appear before an out-of-hours session of the Launceston Magistrates Court tonight.

Around 8.30pm Saturday, police responded to a report of a disturbance on Lambert St between four people allegedly known to each other.

On arrival, emergency services found a 34-year-old man from Mount Direction with multiple stab wounds.

He was provided medical assistance but sadly died at the scene.

Monday morning:A man allegedly involved in a stabbing death at George Town on Saturday night has been arrested at Launceston Airport preparing to flee the state.

As part of the ongoing investigation into the stabbing death of a man on Saturday, Tasmania Police took a man into custody late on Sunday evening.

Specialist police resources took the man into custody as he was allegedly waiting to board a plane to leave Tasmania.

Two other men remain in police custody assisting police with their investigations.

At this stage no charges have yet been laid.

Sunday afternoon: Authorities are yet to locate the knife used in an alleged stabbing death at George Town on Saturday night.

A 34-year-old man, whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene in Lambert Street from multiple stab wounds.

Detective Inspector Melanie Groves said the Mount Direction man was located injured on the pathway on Saturday night, after police were called to a “disturbance” about 8.30pm, with witnesses reporting they’d overheard an argument.

She said although the man was given medical assistance, he died at the scene.

Detective Inspector Groves said one man was in custody and assisting police with enquiries, however no charges had been laid as of Sunday night.

She also said police were searching for two other men allegedly involved.

Detective Inspector Groves said police understood the disturbance had involved four friends.

“Understandably this incident will be concerning for the community and the residents in the area. I can assure everyone the police will be conducting a thorough investigation and it is not believed there is any threat to the wider community,” she said.

Detective Inspector Groves said a knife had been used in the fatal incident, but that at this stage, police had not located the knife.

She also said it was not yet known how many stab wounds the man had suffered.

Lambert Street has been declared a crime scene, with investigators conducting forensic examinations throughout Sunday and units deployed to multiple locations.

“We have specialist resources from forensics, to uniform, from criminal investigation, Forensic Science Service Tasmania and other specialist resources that we are deploying to bring this to a peaceful and safe resolution,” Detective Inspector Groves said.

She was unable to comment on what police believed had led to the attack, or what had happened to the other men allegedly involved.

“Unfortunately for operational reasons, I can’t provide any further details in relation to that,” she said.

“What I can tell you is that witnesses have reported overhearing an argument prior to this incident.”
