Magic Miles for Macy event to be held in Wynyard on Sunday

A community walk will be held in Tassie’s northwest in honour of the daughter of a deputy mayor as she remains in a coma, with a long road to recovery after a horror car crash.

The Wynyard community is banding together this weekend to put some miles under their shoes to give a loved young woman a virtual hug as she continues her long recovery from a car crash.

Macy Edwards’ family and friends this week expressed their gratitude for the $50,000+ already raised through a GoFundMe campaign as they also get ready to take part in the Magic Miles for Macy event at Wynyard’s Gutteridge Gardens.

Burnie City Council deputy mayor Giovanna Simpson urged others to join the walk.

“Our hearts go out to beautiful Macy and her parents, during an incredibly difficult time for them,” Cr Simpson said.

“My heart goes out to my fellow deputy mayor and friend, during this difficult time. When communities unite together, great things will rise.”

Macy is the daughter of Waratah-Wynyard Council deputy mayor Celisa Edwards.

The Magic Miles for Macy event will be held on Sunday in an event organisers say is to “show some love and spread magic and hope.”

Macy Edwards, 22, was heading home to Wynyard in Tasmania’s north west from a tour guiding training cause in Launceston on March 28 when she was involved in a serious car crash.

She has spent the days since in an induced coma in Hobart as specialists assess and address her “significant list” of injuries – including brain and heart trauma; broken ribs, pelvis and collarbone, as well as neck and tailbone fractures.

She will need to be flown to Melbourne for further treatment once she is stable.

The Magic Miles for Macy walk along the Inglis River begins at 10am.
