Gian Gudge: Stepson Brandan ‘torn apart’ by shock road death

A Tasmanian motorcyclist’s shock death on the road has left his stepson, with whom he shared a “special bond”, shattered, the teen’s devastated mum, says.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

The devastated partner of a northern Tasmanian motorcyclist who died in a single-vehicle accident on Friday night says she’ll be “forever grateful” for their time together and doesn’t know “how to live without you”.

Summerhill man Gian Gudge, 35, lost control of his motorcycle on Wentworth St, Newstead, about 7pm on Friday and died from his injuries in hospital later that night.

His partner, Becky Lee, told the Mercury Mr Gudge, a father of two young daughters, “brought so much love into mine and my children’s lives”.

“You had the biggest heart and that’s what made me fall in love with you,” she said.

“You stood by me in my darkest days and held me up whenever I’d fall down, and always made sure me and my kids never went without anything.

“You worked so hard to love and support us all.

“You loved us with everything you had, but one thing’s for sure, you never taught me how to live without you and I don’t know how I’m going to.”

Mr Gudge’s children, stepchildren, parents, four siblings, and galaxy of nieces and nephews were going through unimaginable “pain and suffering,” Ms Lee said.

“So many hearts broken, tears that I just want to stop, you had so many people who love you Gian,” she said.

Her son Brandan, with whom Mr Gudge, a keen BMX rider who worked at Concrete Plus TAS, shared a “special bond”, had been struck particularly hard by the accident.

“To see him so shattered and torn apart breaks my heart,” she said.

Ms Lee said she would try and be strong for the family.

“This is never going to be goodbye, it’s a ‘see you again’, you’re my everything and always will be,” she said.

“I’ll find a way to accept this, I don’t know how but I will do as you would wish and go on, try and be strong and look out for one another and love each other just the way you did to each and everyone.

“I love you now, forever and always.”
