Residents and their four dogs escape house fire | STAR Group, anti-gang detectives arrest man with gel blaster

A single-storey Angle Vale home erupted in flames this morning but the owners and their four pet dogs managed to escape.

The occupants of an Angle Vale home and their four dogs have escaped a blaze overnight.

Firefighters were called to the property on Angle Vale Rd on Saturday, about 3.45am.

When they got there, fire could be seen spreading from a storage room at the back of the single story home.

The occupants had escaped – along with their four dogs.

Firefighters said they also managed to shut the bedroom door, which slowed the spread of the blaze.

CFS crews extinguished the fire within an hour but the damage bill is estimated at $40,000.

The cause of the fire is believed to be a lithium ion battery that was charging and caught alight.

STAR Group, anti-gang detectives arrest man with gel blaster

A 40-year-old Northfield man has been arrested and charged for serious firearm and numerous driving offences.

On Thursday, officers from Operation Mandrake, Northern District and STAR Group attended an Elizabeth Vale home after receiving information a man at the address was in possession of firearms.

Officers were able to negotiate with the man, he surrendered to police and was arrested.

When the police searched the home they found a gel blaster firearm.

The man was charged with possess a firearm without a licence, as well as a number of serious driving offences including three counts of drive disqualified, drive unregistered, fail to stop, disobey red light and driving a vehicle with unassigned plates.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday.

Thugs at large after group bashing in northern suburbs

A man was rushed to hospital after he was set upon by a group of four men and assaulted at Penfield Gardens last night.

Emergency services were called to Robert Rd after the group of men assaulted a 47-year-old man about 8am on Thursday.

The victim was rushed to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the attackers and the victim are known to each other.

The suspects left the scene in a silver Toyota Camry sedan.

Police are investigating the incident and asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.

Woman rushed to hospital after fall while treating horse

A woman was rushed to hospital after an accident while treating a horse at Morphettville on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to Ellis Ave, near the Morphettville Racecourse just before 9.30am after reports of an animal bite.

7News reported the 44-year-old woman had fallen backwards and hit her head on concrete while putting a bandaid on a horse.

The woman was taken to Flinders Medical Centre in a stable condition.
