A 3.0 magnitude earthquake has shaken up a town in the Upper Spencer Gulf on Thursday afternoon.
The earthquake hit Whyalla just before 1.30pm, with a depth of 10km.
12 people reported that they felt the earthquake.
It comes after another earthquake shook the town of Burra in the state’s Mid North, early last month.
The earthquake shook the town at 7.35am on Monday, with the epicentre in the ranges about 15km south of the town.
David Love, a seismologist at the Seismological Association of Australia Inc, said it was felt up to 40km away and possibly even further.
He said this event was quite close to the magnitude 5.1 earthquake in 1997 that caused some damage in the area.
“The region is quite active, with small events happening on a regular basis. It is part of the Flinders Ranges – Mount Lofty seismic zone,” he said.
