A toddler is fighting for life after being struck by a car on Port Lincoln’s main street on Thursday.
The 23-month-old girl was rushed to hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car on Tasman Terrace in the city’s foreshore around 5:30pm.
She was airlifted to Adelaide to receive further care.
Witnesses told 7NEWs the family had sat down to eat in the alfresco dining area around 5.30pm on Thursday when the little girl ran across the road and was struck by an elderly driver, who told police she didn’t see the child.
Witness Matthew Heath told the network that the father ran after the toddler but did not manage to grab her in time.
“The father took chase straight away and just wasn’t quite quick enough to get there,” he said.
“The driver obviously didn’t see the little girl coming and didn’t have any chance to stop.
“We just covered the wounds and helped dad stay calm.”
