Heart-stopping CCTV has captured the moment a masked thief smashed an axe into the cashier’s glass at a northern suburbs pub before making off with a bag of cash.
Police released security footage of the incident at the Whitehorse Inn Hotel at Bolivar on Monday, in a bid for information over the attack that occurred in November last year.
Video shows a man wearing a dark hoodie and white ‘Scream’ mask appearing to threaten the cashier of the Port Wakefield Rd pub while brandishing an axe.
The man can be seen storming away from the counter after a brief interaction, before returning and slamming the axe into the protective glass, shattering it.
He then smashes the axe into the window a second time, before the cashier throws a small bag of cash toward him.
The thief can be seen quickly checking the bag before fleeing the premises.
Police said the incident occurred just before 4.50am on November 16 and have appealed for any members of the public who might know the identity of the robber to come forward.
The man, who fled the premises on foot down Port Wakefield Rd, is described as about 173cm, average build, wearing a light-coloured hoodie, gloves and wearing a white mask.
Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
