Man dead after tractor accident at Riverton, another man killed in tractor collision with car at Waterloo Corner

A man driving a tractor has died in a collision with an allegedly unlicensed driver at Waterloo Corner – the second of two unrelated fatal tractor accidents.

Two men are dead after separate, unrelated tractor accidents in two days, one at Waterloo Corner in the evening and one at Riverton on Friday.

Police were called to Symes Road at Waterloo Corner about 7.30pm on Saturday after reports a Ford and a tractor had collided.

The tractor driver, an 83-year-old Waterloo Corner man, died at the scene.

The 41-year-old driver of the Ford was arrested and charged with cause death by dangerous driving, driving without due care and driving unlicensed.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday.

Symes Road was closed in both directions for several hours but has since been reopened.

Major Crash officers investigating the crash have asked that anyone who saw the 2002 silver Ford wagon prior to the crash, or who has any information, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report on line at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – you can remain anonymous.

Meanwhile, another man died after a tractor accident at Riverton on Friday night in a paddock near the intersection of Mitchells Rd and Slape Rd at 11.15.

It is understood the man was not driving the tractor at the time.

Despite efforts of paramedics, the 43-year-old Riverton man died at the scene.

A SafeWork SA spokesperson said they have been notified of the incident and inspectors are attending the site and making inquiries.

The first man’s death brings SA’s road toll to 61, compared with 86 at the same time last year.
